Swine project

This year the Glenview Clovers had twelve kids participating in the project. While you might not think raising pigs would be hard work this year it was. Starting with the cool Spring weather the pigs had to fight off sickness and some other health issues. By the time Summer rolled around the pig pen could be divide between the heavy weights and the lighter pigs. Thus began the quest to find what treats the little pigs would get excited about and gain some extra weight. On the first day of the fair the kids have to weigh in all the pigs. The fair has a rule that the pigs have to weight between 220 and 270 pounds. Everyone was fine on the top end but there was a l0t of work to be done to get the bottom four pigs to make weight. With minutes to spare, Jack's pig Rudy stepped on the scale and made it by one pound. During the judging our stock did not seem to catch the eye of the judge and we placed in the lower middle of the pack. Still we got all blue ribbons. The last task the kids had to do was auction their pigs off. The prices this year were better than last year with most of the pigs bringing between $3-4.50 per pound.
