Don't throw those pumpkins away just yet...

Happy Halloween! While you may have enjoyed our creative pumpkin ideas this month, we're sure you've already pressed forward on enjoying the normal Halloween festivities and have jack-o-lanterns or painted pumpkin faces adorning your front yard or porch. Don't fret, we still have one more trick up our sleeves, and it's a creative idea of what to do with that already carved pumpkin.

On Saturday, November 2, the Glenview Parks District will be hosting its first Annual Pumpkin Smash and Bash at Flick Park. Those pumpkins are full of nutrients and make great compost. Instead of throwing them away this year, join us at 3:30 p.m. to roll your pumpkin down the Flick Park Sled Hill in a fun competition that kicks off the event, and then smash them into piles of compost that will help nourish plants in the spring.

Go green by helping to clean up the newly smashed pumpkins and learn about composting. Make sure you remove any candles and glow sticks beforehand, though. The event is free but registration is required. Call the Glenview Park District weather hotline (847) 724-3337 or visit glenviewparks.org on the day of the event for updates.

This post concludes our series on creative pumpkin ideas. Want more? Follow us on Twitter and share your pumpkin ideas and pictures with us.
